Aputure has upgraded two of their popular small to medium size, quick to deploy softboxes. This should theoretically save time, and on the odd occasion – the mild embarrassment of having to 'build' your softbox in front of clients on location.
The larger 90cm Light Dome III comes with the option of utilising either a one stop or two stop fabric front diffusion cover, while the smaller 60cm Mini III has the option of changing the inner reflective material from silver to gold. Both come with a durable carry bag and fabric grid as well as inner diffusion and outer diffusion layers.
Since the Mk I version, Aputure has been refining the way the domes are deployed as well as the rigidity of the locking mechanisms. Breakdown has been increasingly faster, but at time of review we are unable to determine stop-watched actual set up / breakdown times. Interestingly, both soft boxes now feature a 'flat pack' design which sees the mounting ring split in 2 so that the spokes can all fold flat for easier transportation.
The 90cm Light Dome III (US $219 / $AU 330+ ) and the 60cm Light Dome Mini III (US $129 / $AU 195+) should be available later in the month of August 2023.
