Canon EOS 5D Mark IV
Canon’s EOS 5D family has a new member – the all-new EOS 5D Mark IV. Boasting a 30.4 megapixel CMOS sensor with a wide exposure latitude, the camera also features seven frames per second (fps) capture (up to 21 RAW files or unlimited JPEGS, in a single burst), 4K movie recording at 30, 25 and 24fps (4096 x 2160) with the ability to extract 8.8MB JPEG images from 4K video, and built-in Wi-Fi and GPS.
As well as this, the Mark IV is the first in the EOS range to offer the Dual Pixel RAW file format which allows photographers to fine-tune images in post production by adjusting or correcting the point of sharpness, shifting the foreground bokeh, or reducing image ghosting.
The ISO of 100 to 32,000 can be expanded from 50 up to 102,400, while the autofocus system from the 1D X Mark II has been utilised, providing 61 points, including 41 cross-type points – a 24% increase over the 5D Mark III. The system is so sensitive, it can even focus with moonlight alone. The new offering weighs slightly less than its predecessor, tipping the scales at 890g, versus 960g.
Inside, driven by the DIGIC 6 processor, an enhanced noise processing algorithm further improves low light shooting, and the silent capture modes mean that noise when shooting is significantly reduced. Water and dust resistance has also been improved, making it a good choice for those working in challenging terrain.
