The latest release from Hasselblad is the X1D. The mirrorless design of this camera has allowed the Swedish camera manufacturer to put their 50 megapixel sensor into a camera body much more compact than a typical full-frame, 35mm DSLR. No larger than a small format rangefinder, one can expect the same level of quality as produced by Hasselblad medium format offerings.
With the ability to capture up to 14 stops of dynamic range, images can reveal a greater level of detail – from dark shadows to the brightest highlights. The high-resolution rear LCD offers touch control for all aspects of the camera’s features, and the icon-based user interface speeds access to customisation options along with intuitive playback functions, such as swipe, and pinch to zoom. The camera also boasts a 2.4 megapixel XGA electronic viewfinder for viewing even under difficult lighting conditions.
The inclusion of dual SD card slots offers greater flexibility and images can either be saved to both cards simultaneously, shoot to the second card when the first is full, or RAW images can be saved on one card, while JPEGs are saved to the other. Built-in high speed Wi-Fi gives you the freedom to preview your shots and even control the camera wirelessly using Phocus Mobile on an iOS device. Geotagging of images is handled by the X1D’s built-in GPS module.
The extended ISO range can be set up to 25,600, with shutter speeds ranging from 60 minutes to 1/2000th second – with flash synchronisation at all speeds. A new range of lenses has been produced to fit the X1D, the XCD series, however, existing H System users also have the flexibility to use their lenses with the X1D by means of an optional adapter.
