Leica Q

The full-frame sensor Leica Q was recently launched in Melbourne. Equipped with a classic focal length of 28mm, the f/1.7 ASPH Summilux lens makes the camera ideal for low-light situations and street photography applications, due to its compact design and silent operation. It’s also perfect for landscape and architectural work. The camera is a pleasure to use and comes with a 24 megapixel CMOS sensor and ISO sensitivity up to 50,000. The autofocus is particularly quick, and the newly-developed image processor from the Leica Maestro II family is specially adapted for use in the Leica Q. It is able to processes data from the sensor at significant speed and delivers up to ten frames per second at full resolution.

Another significant feature of the Leica Q is its outstanding integrated viewfinder, with a resolution of 3.68 megapixels. While the camera comes with a fixed focal 28mm lens, the digital frame selector means that your creativity won’t be restricted. Alternative subject framing can be selected at the press of a button, from 28mm to 35mm to 50mm. The selected framing is preserved in the JPEG image files, while the RAW files, in DNG format, record the entire field captured by the 28mm lens.

Made in Germany, the quality of the build is to the highest standards, with only the finest materials employed in its construction. The top plate is machined from solid blocks of aluminium while the body is made of magnesium alloy. Other features include WiFi file transfer and control, touch screen, and full HD recording in either 30 or 60 frames per second.
