Leica S (Typ 007) medium format DSLR

The new Leica S (Typ 007) DSLR is set to redefine medium-format photography. The camera builds on its predecessor and boasts a number of significant improvements, including a dynamic range of up to 15 stops. Unveiled at Photokina in 2014, the production model has been enhanced even further. The camera features a new image sensor and new processor for increased image quality and higher speed, with a burst rate up to 3.5 frames per second. And the new focal plane shutter in the camera offers a significantly increased service life of at least 150,000 cycles.

The 37-megapixel, 30x45mm Leica ProFormat sensor is housed in an extremely ruggedly-built body, sealed against environmental factors like dust and rain. The system currently has 10 available Leica S-System lenses, six of which are also available with a central shutter, however, numerous third-party medium-format lenses can be mounted onto the Leica S (Typ 007) with adapters.

For the first time, video recording is also possible with full-HD video utilising the full-frame medium-format size sensor, 4K video recording in Super 35 format, fast Live View mode and exceptional image quality at all ISO settings, up to the maximum 12,500. The autofocus system has also had an overhaul and boasts not only higher speed but also more reliable and more precise focusing, along with a predictive autofocus mode.

In combination with the Leica S app for iPhones and iPads with the latest version of iOS, the camera’s integrated Wi-Fi module enables remote control of the camera and remote image assessment in Live View mode to provide simple and intuitive workflows. While the integrated GPS module records the geographical positioning data of its current location in the EXIF data of the image file whenever needed.

The three-inch, 921,600 pixels resolution screen, made with tough, scratch-resistant Gorilla Glass, displays images in full sRGB colour space along with increased contrast and brightness, allowing optimum assessment of subjects and images in every situation.
