Leica TL2
The latest impressive offering from Leica comes in the form of the TL2, and is available in black and silver. The new Leica TL2 is based on the TL-System, which has been continuously advanced in terms of speed, ease of handling, and flexibility since it first launched. The compact body of this new camera features an unusual design, and each individual body has been precisely machined from a single block of aluminium at the Leica factory.
The camera is equipped with a newly developed, 24-megapixel CMOS sensor in APS-C format. Along with the new, Maestro II series high-performance image processor, you can expect outstanding picture quality with impressive dynamic range, excellent contrast and colour rendition, and exceptional sharpness. The Leica TL2 also boasts various video recording modes, such as 4K (3840 x 2160p at 30 frames per second), full HD (1920 x 1080p at 60 frames per second), HD (1280 x 720p at 60 frames per second or slow motion [SLOMO] captured at 120 frames per second).
A standout feature of the Leica TL2 is its significantly improved AF speed and precision. It now takes a mere 165 milliseconds for the camera to lock focus, which is three times faster than its predecessor. Another new development is an electronically controlled shutter that enables silent exposures at shutter speeds up to 1/40,000 sec and an increase in the continuous shooting rate from 7 to a maximum of 20 frames per second.
The integrated Wi-Fi module allows for convenient transfer of images and video to smartphones, tablets, and desktop PCs from anywhere. For added convenience, the camera’s battery can be charged via a standard USB cable thereby eliminating the requirement of having a separate battery charger. This will prove particularly useful on location where it’s now possible to recharge a battery from an external power bank.
When it comes to lenses, the system currently comprises six lenses – three prime lenses and three zooms. These include the Leica Summicron-TL 23mm f/2 ASPH., the Summilux-TL 35mm f/1.4 ASPH., and the APO-Macro-Elmarit-TL 60mm f/2.8 ASPH. along with the Leica Super-Vario-Elmar-TL 11–23mm f/3.5–4.5 ASPH., Vario-Elmar-TL 18–56mm f/3.5–5.6 ASPH., and APO-Vario-Elmar-TL 55–135mm f/3.5–4.5 ASPH.. These lenses cover focal lengths from 17 to 200 mm (in 35mm format equiv.). Dedicated adapters are available for using Leica M and R lenses on TL cameras, while SL lenses do not require an additional adapter.
