SanDisk Professional Pro-G40 SSD

Recently announced, the SanDisk Professional Pro-G40 SSD is quite possibly the company’s most rugged portable hard drive ever. Capable of withstanding a drop of 3m and crush resistance of around 1,800kg, if you happen to accidentally drive your car over it, there’s a chance it might suffer nothing less than a few scratches, although we’re not suggesting you perform the test yourself.

 

Built to withstand pretty much anything the elements throw at it, its high level IP68 dust and water resistance keeps your data safe, even with submersion in water at a depth of up to 1.5m for about 30 minutes.

The drive boasts dual compatibility meaning you can use it in either a USB-C or Thunderbolt 3 workflow, connected though its single port. When you connected with Thunderbird 3, the Pro-G40 can reach speeds up to 2,700 MB/s read and 1,900 MB/s write speeds, capable of moving 50GB in 30 seconds or less. Speeds drop to 1,050MB/s (read) and 1,000MB/s (write) using USB 3.2 Gen 2.
