Sony FE 50mm f/1.4 GM lens
The latest lens in the Sony pro-level GM lineup is the FE 50mm f/1.4 GM lens, and tips the scales at 516 grams. Along with an 11-blade circular aperture, the new lens features two XA (extreme aspherical) elements and one ED (extra-low dispersion) glass element that suppresses chromatic aberration, while Sony’s Nano AR Coating II helps suppress reflections.
The lens has a minimum focusing distance of 0.41 meters and a maximum magnification of 0.16x. With reagrds to focus, Sony says the lens is as much as 1.9x faster than the Zeiss Planar T* FE 50mm F1.4 ZA lens, with autofocus driven by a high-thrust XD (extreme dynamic) linear motor. The lens also the lens supports the breathing compensation function offered in a number of Sony’s Alpha cameras.
For manual focus, the lens features Sony's Linear Response MF, for direct, repeatable and subtle control . In a first for a Sony prime lens, the FE 50mm features an iris lock switch.
The 67mm thread on the mount FE 50mm is common across the FE 24mm f/1.4 G Master and FE 35mm f/1.4 G Master lenses, allowing filters to be shared.
The front lens element of the FE 50mm f/1.4 GM features a fluorine coating that repels and allows for easy removal of fingerprints, dust, water, oil, and other contaminants. The lens is both dust and moisture resistant.
Available in late March, the FE 50mm f/1.4 GM has an RRP of $2,599.
