CASA's latest app - a must for all drone operators
Drones are amazing fun, but flown irresponsibly, or in restricted airspace, the consequences can be catastrophic. Thankfully, the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) has released a new drone safety app, Can I fly there? The app is a must for all Australian drone operators and is an excellent safety awareness tool, detailing nearby airports, helicopter landing sites, controlled airspace, and restricted areas.
It reflects the standard operating conditions for the excluded category (Sub 2kg), commercial drone operations where those flying their drones commercially, under this category, are not permitted to fly higher than 120m above ground level. Additional information regarding the regulations can be found here.
Data used by the app is sourced from Airservices Australia. Any inaccuracies noted, such as the incorrect location of an aerodrome or helicopter landing site, can be reported to docs.amend@AirservicesAustralia.com.
Available for download on Android and iOS devices with a web-based version also available.
