Vitor Queiroz’s entry in Australasia’s Top Emerging Photographers 2019, Young Cairo, is a featured portfolio, and appears in the Documentary/Photojournalism category.
Young Cairo is a work in progress documentary project, set in Sydney's Inner West, by Sydney-based Vitor Queiroz. It focusses on the daily life of “Cairo”, a 21-year-old South Sudanese aspiring hip-hop artist with no role models to guide him in his search for a place in society.
Immersed in the hustling of daily life, Cairo struggles to be a son, a brother, an uncle, an adult and a professional musician. It is a world where family, media and social role models don’t understand each other and where everything happens at a fast pace. A social background that acts as a magnifying glass, revealing the conflicts that teenagers and young adults face nowadays, in different shades of skin.
Australasia's Top Emerging Photographers is the region's main platform for discovering and showcasing photographers at the outset of their careers. The competition is open to emerging, student, and amateur photographers.
Entries are now open. Standard pricing ends very soon, with the price for entries going up after 1 February 2019.
