Russian photojournalist, Valery Melnikov is a staff photographer with the Sputnik agency. Recently, he’s covered the Ukrainian conflict of 2014, the 2013 uprising in Mali, and in 2012 covered the civil war in Syria, amongst other hotspots around the world. In this image, civilians escape from a fire at a house destroyed by the air attack in the village of Luhanskaya, in Ukraine. Melnikov’s work featured at the Festival of Ethical Photography.
