Our cover comes from veteran conflict photographer, Ron Haviv, who has been covering conflict since the late 1980s. This image, shot in Darfur, Sudan, in 2005, shows young girls leaving an IDP camp to gather firewood for their families – work which will take over seven hours and lead them past government checkpoints, leaving them exposed to attacks.
