The semi-finalists in one of Australia’s richest photographic prizes, the Moran Contemporary Photographic Prize, were recently revealed. A total of 103 semi-finalists were named, all vying for the top prize of $50,000. All finalists also receive $1,000 and the opportunity to exhibit at Juniper Hall Paddington, NSW. This year, entries included portraits of swimmer Michael Klim and former Prime Minister Bob Hawke to an image of Martin Place following the Lindt Café siege. The judging panel in 2015 includes Cheryl Newman, former Photography Director and contributing writer of the UK’s Telegraph Magazine and photographic historian Alan Davies, the former Emeritus Curator of Photographs at the State Library of New South Wales.
The finalists of the Moran Contemporary Photographic Prize will be announced on 13 October, with the winners revealed on 28 October at Juniper Hall in Paddington, Sydney. An exhibition of the finalists at Juniper Hall opens to the public on 29 October.
