The view that a beer helmet can or should be used for anything other than delivering beer is surely a heretical belief. Yet a Japanese photographer going by the moniker @nishihiro0312 decided to put his unconventional beliefs into practice by converting such an item into a mobile studio setup mounting speedlights plus diffusers onto such a party hat and taking things to the next level. Now, such an act might upset the beer lovers amongst you, but apparently the setup works a treat.
With room for customisation, a number of various setup can be achieved, from single to dual speedlights, either without or with diffusers (if you don’t mind looking like a Mickey Mouse clone) to the advanced setup, which Nishihiro swears by, which involves a single speedlight mounted on one side and his favourite drink on the other side. Perfect when shooting those weddings in the height of summer. Not only does this setup allow him to remain hydrated, but it reduces the weight on his arm while shooting events.
But Nishihiro is but only one pioneer operating in this space. In the past we’ve seen the lightbox made out of a white bin, along with an old favourite, the ice cream tub. Who can tell what innovations we can expect to see in the near future?
