The world's greatest thrift shop find? A Leica for under $5.
Let’s be honest, everyone loves a bargain. And I mean EVERYONE! But for one lucky punter in the USA, I’m not even sure his once-in-a-lifetime find even qualifies as a bargain. It enters a whole other realm and transcends a mere mortal’s definition of the term.
Recently reported on PetaPixel, one extremely lucky person managed to get their hands on a Leica M2 from his local thrift store for not much more than you’d pay for a coffee. Reddit user GreenteaBanana found the pristine Leica M2 35mm as well as an Elmar 50mm f/2.8 lens for the princely sum of $4.99 while checking out his local.
With an approximate value of $1,200 for the body and anywhere between $700-$900, this find of a lifetime is going to be hard to top. Of his tremendous good fortune, the lucky college student commented: “It’s something like this that people would buy and use it for the rest of their lives so that is something I'm considering since I do enjoy photography.” Unsurprisingly, he stated that the Leica has been “by far the best and most valuable thing I've found in years of thrifting.”
