$50,000 annual Heritage Bank Photographic Awards open for entries

Entries are now open for the 34th annual Heritage Bank Photographic Awards. Open to both professional and amateur photographers, the competition is one of the country’s longest running and offers a prize pool of over $50,000 across a range of categories and awards.

Entrants can submit up to four images (in total) across any of the categories for 2022: Open, Themed (“Belonging”), and Illustrative.

Prizes

Major prizes include $15,000 each to the winner of the Open and Themed category, with the winning work purchased by Heritage Bank. One image from the Illustrative category will be purchased by Heritage Bank for a $5,000 purchase price.

Entry is free, with a deadline of 5pm AEST on 24 June 2022. Winners and finalists will be on display in an exhibition at the USQ Arts Gallery in Toowoomba from 12 September to 28 October.

Brisbane photographer Netal Lucas was named winner of the Open category taking home $15,000 for her image, Afternoon tea in lockdown, a snapshot of kids covered in mud sitting on the front step, enjoying a snack during lockdown. Jakob Kennedy was named runner-up.

South Australian Lucia Staykov took out top honours in the other major category which had the theme of "Helping Hands". Her image, Family Hands, a black and white portrait taken during a newborn photo session saw her scooping the $15,000 prize. Peter Rossi placed second.

Meanwhile, New South Wales photographer Colleen Price was named as the inaugural winner of the Illustrative category, with no limits on post production, taking home the first prize of $5,000 with Bush Clothes Drying.
