Apple announces M4-powered MacBook Pros

Apple has announced its new suite of MacBook Pro laptops, which now come with the company's M4, M4 Pro and M4 Max chips.

As well as improved performance, the standout feature of the new workhorse laptops is probably the 'nano-texture' matte displays, which are available for the first time in Apple's laptop lineup are previously only being on its desktop models - although at an added cost.

That said, you do have to pay an extra $230 AUD for the privilege of having the matte tech.

According to Apple, the display can also now go up to 1,000 nits in SDR mode; previously, you could only reach that brightness when viewing HDR content. This should mean the screen is easier to see in bright conditions and will be helpful for users who are outside or work in high glare environments.

In addition, Apple says the new laptops also come with an upgraded webcam that supports 'Center Stage', a feature which crops in on the subject, and keeps them centered in the middle of the frame when they're moving around.

The 14-inch models, which start at $2,499, start with the M4 chip, and are built around a 10-Core CPU and 10-Core GPU, 16GB Unified Memory and 512GB SSD Storage. The range-topping 14-inch model is built around an M4 Max chip, and offers a 14-Core CPU, 32-Core GPU, 36GB Unified Memory and 1TB SSD Storage. It'll set you back $4,999.

For the larger 16-inch models, $3,999 will get you the entry level model, with an M4 Pro chip, a 14-Core CPU, 20-Core GPU, 24GB Unified Memory and 512GB SSD Storage. The 16-inch models peak at the $6,499 M4 Max chip model, with a 16-Core CPU, 40-Core GPU, 48GB Unified Memory and 1TB SSD Storage.

The new Macbooks ship from 7 November. Find out more at apple.com.au.
