Canon launches PowerShot V10 vlogging camera

Canon has announced the PowerShot V10, a lightweight and stripped back vlogging camera and an entirely new design for the Japanese company.

Clearly aimed at users shooting on a smartphone, the new device weighs just over 211 grams, with Canon hopeful lifestyle and travel content creators will take to its all-in-one functionality that combines high-quality microphones with a built-in stand.

The camera feels surprisingly solid in the hand and anyone familiar with Canon menu system will take to this with ease.
As the sensor and lens is superior to many phone cameras, it will allow lower light situations with higher quality footage.

The device, which will retail for $699, has a 1-inch CMOS sensor and shoots 4K UHD 30P video for up to an hour, but has no in-built image stabilisation or ability to upload to social media sites like Instagram or TikTok, although it does have live-streaming tools built-in to either YouTube or Facebook.

In addition to its stills shooting capabilities which max out at 15MP, Canon says that for added 'cinematic atmosphere', there are 14 colour filter effects and a social media friendly Smooth Skin mode. The Powershot is built around a 6.6mm (18mm in stills and 19mm in video mode equiv.) lens with an f/2.8 maximum aperture.

The PowerShot relies on a Movie Digital IS mode to help reduce camera shake, and is also capable of shooting in both vertical and horizontal orientations, and also has an auto level feature which can help keep videos straight.

Additionally, the PowerShot V10 is equipped with two stereo microphones designed for narration and a third audio noise reduction microphone.

The PowerShot features a 2.0-inch LCD touchscreen which can be flipped to the front for self-vlogging or recording others, and the device is compatible with Canon's Camera Connect app, allowing for videos to be transferred to a smartphone or tablet over Wi-Fi.

It also includes both HDMI and USB ports for transfers to a laptop or PC, or to use as a webcam, and the device can be recharged via USB-C.

The PowerShot V10 will be available in Australia from June 2023. You can find out more at the Canon website.
