Crucial is releasing a new portable line of rugged SSD drives aimed specifically at photographers and video makers.
The Crucial X9 Pro Portable SSD is rated up to 1,050MB/s while the more expensive X10 Pro Portable SSD is rated up to 2,100MB/s. Both come in 1TB, 2TB and 4TB sizes and feature IP55 rated water, dust and sand resistance, drop proof durability of 2 meters, as well as the option of encryption.
Both are very compact in size (65 x 50mm), weigh around 40g and are constructed out of anodised aluminium with rubberised soft-touch base.
At time of press, there is no Australian price, though the U.S. price for the X9 is $79 for 1TB and the X10 is $119 for 1TB.
Trust is a very important factor when it comes to storing our precious photographs and Crucial is up against the established brands of Sandisk, Samsung, WD and Lacie.
Interestingly, the Crucial brand has been around since 1996, though the general public may not have heard of their memory module products unless they are part of the PC building communities (i.e. people who assemble their own computers)
