Fujifilm announces the hybrid wide-angle Instax Wide Evo

Fujifilm has announced the Instax Wide Evo, a new hybrid camera that combines the company’s Instax line of instant cameras with its smartphone printers in one package.

The company's Evo line combines instant film cameras with the ability to select, share, edit, and store digital photos in one camera body.

Its newest, the Wide Evo, has the widest lens on any Instax instant camera at an equivalent 16.67mm, although there's an option to shoot at 'standard' focal lengths, or even wider than this, if so desired.

In addition, the Instax Wide Evo has 10 lens effects and 10 film effect options, giving up to 100 different combinations that can then be fine-tuned with “Degree Control” which lets users determine the degree to which each effect is applied.

The Wide Evo offers five distinct film styles: a cinematic effect with black bars at the top and bottom, a classic film strip appearance, a traditional date/time stamp design, a nostalgic contact sheet look, and a vintage collodion process effect.

From the camera's rear 3.5-inch LCD monitor, it's possible to add effects, edit, print, and adjust image settings. Fujifilm says that the camera can print up to 100 photos per charge and it has a microSD card slot to expand on the camera's relatively paltry internal storage.

For analogue lovers, it's also possible to select effects using various dials, and print shots by manually rotating the “Print crank”.

Fujifilm says the camera body features a 'luxurious' design that combines a black base with metallic materials.

Coinciding with the launch of the new camera, Fujifilm is also releasing a colour-matched camera case and wide format film in a “brushed metallics” style, which features unique gradations and metallic-like textures.

It will set you back $29.95 for a 10-sheet-pack.

The Instax Wide Evo will retail for $599 from Feb 4.
