Hasselblad has released a new lightweight 245g, reasonably priced 28mm f/4 Street Photography centric lens for its X System cameras.
The XCD 4/28P lens is part of the P Series which are more affordable in comparison to the expensive and heavier V Series.
Having the equivalent 35mm format of a focal length of 22mm may cause some conjecture as to ‘what is the ultimate focal length for street photography?’ – as most would say it is probably 35mm. But an equivalent 22mm can be great for leading lines, architecture and cityscapes. And the fact that it’s attached to a medium format 100MP camera means you can do some heavy cropping without too much image quality loss.
The lens has a 22cm minimum focusing distance and 1:6 magnification for extreme close-ups. And the lens’s leaf shutter supports shooting with flash synchronisation at all shutter speeds, with flash synchronisation up to 1/4000s.
While most wouldn’t equate a traditional medium format camera as being stealthy, lightweight and ‘street worthy’ – the camera that the lens is attached to, the XD2 (retail AU$12,460) is surprisingly compact and reasonably light at 895g with battery.
Australian prices have not been released at time of press, but it is currently retailing at US$1,697 which may mean around the AU$3,000 mark.
