Leica announces Q3 43 with 43mm f/2 lens
Leica has announced a variant of its popular full frame compact Q3 camera, the Q3 43.
There's very little to separate the two cameras, with the new Q3 43 gaining a 43mm F2 lens as opposed to the Summilux 28mm f/1.7 ASPH. lens of its sibling.
Like that camera, it's mounted in front of a 60MP BSI CMOS sensor.
Leica says the 43mm focal length mirrors the natural perception of the human eye, allowing for the 'realistic composition of distortion-free motifs' through the high-resolution OLED viewfinder - that's the same viewfinder as the standard Q3.
Otherwise, it features a grey leatherette coating and a number engraved into the hotshoe, but retains all the other features of the Q3 - including Leica's 'Triple-Resolution' technology, which essentially means the camera can shoot at 60, 36 or 18 MP, with the two smaller image sizes allowing for faster camera operation, longer image sequences, and smaller file sizes.
That longer lens does also give it a few more settings though, for 43mm, 60mm, 75mm, 90mm, 120mm and 150mm.
In addition, like its sibling, the Leica Q3 43 also features an integrated macro mode for close-ups.
The Q3 43 also comes with a slight price bump over its predecessor. While the Q3 retailed for $9,790 at launch (although that's now jumped to $10,890) the Q3 43 will set you back $11,890.
