Leica inaugural Picture of the Year announced
An image by Ralph Gibson has just been named the inaugural Leica Picture of the Year. Launched recently by Leica Galleries International, the Picture of the Year will be selected from photographers who have been inducted into the Leica Hall of Fame. Over the last ten years, Leica Camera AG has honoured 12 other renowned photographers for their life's work.
Along with Gibson, the other photographers in the Leica Hall of Fame include Steve McCurry, Barbara Klemm, Nick Út, René Burri, Thomas Hoepker, Ara Güler, Gianni Berengo Gardin, Joel Meyerowitz, Bruce Davidson, Jürgen Schadeberg, and Walter Vogel.
The limited-edition print by Gibson, who was winner of the Leica Hall of Fame Award 2021, will be available exclusively at the 25 Leica Galleries worldwide, giving collectors the opportunity to build a collection of works by iconic Leica photographers.
Of the limited run of 75 fine art prints worldwide, three are available in Australia through Sydney or Melbourne Leica stores. Images are $2,990 each and are presented in a special box with a certificate of authenticity and special edition numbering.
