Leica sets 100-year revenue record
Leica has recorded the highest revenue in the company's 100-year history, banking 554 million euros (891 million AUD) for the 2023/24 financial year, considerably more than 2023/24's already impressive 485 million euros ($780 million AUD).
In an era when camera companies are increasingly diversifying, it's all the more remarkable that Leica's core business, cameras, is still the primary driver of this growth, with the Leica Q3 in particular a hugely successful product for the German company.
That said, some of the revenue growth comes from Leica's Mobile Imaging segment, which includes the clearly successful acquisition of Norwegian company Fjorden Electra AS, known for its smartphone apps and accessories, along with the development of the Leica LUX photo app.
In addition, partnerships, such as with Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi and its latest Xiaomi 15 Series featuring Leica optics, are also key.
According to Yahoo Finance, revenue increased in all regions during fiscal year 2023/2024, with Asia leading at 25% growth.
"The past fiscal year has seen a further strengthening of the brand’s position in strategically important markets. Today, Leica has an overall global network of 120 stores, 12 of which are located in Germany,” the company says.
Leica will commemorate the 100th anniversary of its iconic Leica I camera next year, and says it plans a variety of events celebrating photography at its Wetzlar headquarters and in its global network to mark the occasion.
