For the uninitiated, the National Photographic Portrait Prize is an annual portraiture competition held at the National Portrait Gallery in Canberra that has been running since 2007. This year it features 34 selected finalists who provide a powerful visual record of the year, reflecting a particular time in Australian culture, both socially and artistically.

In 2024, the winner will receive a cash prize of $30,000 and Canon equipment valued at $20,000 courtesy of the Gallery’s Imaging Partner, Canon Australia.

The exhibition runs until 13 October 2024.

Tickets are $15 for adult, $12 concession, while under 18s are free.
The ticket also grants entry to the Darling Portrait Prize.
