Peak Design donates US$218,050 following successful Travel Tripod launch
In the wake of Peak Design’s successful launch of their Travel Tripod last month, Peak Design CEO, Peter Dering, announced the brand would donate 100% of the profits from every Travel Tripod sold (direct + wholesale) to the CDC Foundation & Climate Neutral—organizations whose mission is to confront separate, yet concurrent, global disasters. The company saw the opportunity to financially support their colleagues while helping to address two global crises. “Now more than ever is the time for us to act on our core values and ensure that our employees, contractors, and retail partners can find economic shelter in a product we’ve spent years developing,” Dering said.
Over the four-day launch period, a total of 2,265 Travel Tripods were sold. Sales of the aluminium alloy version (1,073 units) generated US$75,110 in profit, while the carbon fibre version (1,192 units) resulted in US$143,040 in profit. The US$218,050 will be split evenly between the CDC Foundation and Climate Neutral.
Originally launched on Kickstarter in May 2019, the Peak Design Travel Tripod raised US$12.1m from 27,168 backers. The tripod was praised for its ground up re-examination of traditional tripod design, claiming to be the world’s most portable, packable, and easy-to-setup tripod.
