Photofields is an annual photography event in Sydney organised by Powerhouse, happening this year on December 6–7, 2024.
It features workshops, talks, film screenings, and exhibitions across several venues, including the Ace Hotel, Golden Age Cinema, and Sydney Observatory.
This year’s program celebrates the 150th anniversary of the Sydney Observatory’s photograph of the Transit of Venus in 1874, an event that highlights the intersection of photography, astronomy, and storytelling. Highlights include:
- Talks and Films: Australian photographers Trent Parke and Narelle Autio will host a discussion about their work, while Golden Age Cinema screens thought-provoking films like All Light, Everywhere and a new short film, Human Computer.
- Workshops: Sydney Observatory will host hands-on sessions, such as shadow photography, cameraless lumen printing, and reflective photography exploring landscapes and cultural connections.
- Exhibitions: A free exhibit running from December 5 to February 1 will display winning entries from the David Malin Awards for astrophotography and offer telescope demonstrations.
You can find out more about the event lineup on the Photofields website.
