Vital Impacts print sale aims to raise $1 million for conservation efforts
Vital Impacts, a women-led initiative founded by Ami Vitale and Eileen Mignoni, is aiming to raise much-needed funds to support organisations committed to helping the environment. As part of their latest offering, works by more than 100 of the finest photographers, who share a commitment to the environment, have made prints available as part of the Winter Collection. To date, Vital Impacts has raised over US$1,500,000 through print sales which has been used to aid conservation and humanitarian efforts.
More than 100 Open Edition prints and over 45 Limited Edition prints will be available for sale with 60% of proceeds going directly to support Jane Goodall Institute's Roots and Shoots and the Vital Impacts grants and mentoring initiatives.
Two US$20,000 Environmental Photography Grants and a mentorship program for 50 honorees that supports in-depth environmental documentary journalists will be announced in conjunction with the print sale.
Dr Jane Goodall DBE, the world's foremost expert on chimpanzees, has contributed exclusive, hand-signed prints that she took herself over sixty years ago in Gombe National Park with her beloved chimpanzees. She also has included an image that is travelling in outer space as part of NASA's Golden Record on the Voyager spacecraft. The Voyager Golden Records are two phonograph records that were included aboard both Voyager spacecraft launched in 1977.
Other contributors are drawn from the covers of National Geographic and the world's most prestigious fine-art galleries. Just a few of the photographers are James Balog, Brian Skerry, Steve McCurry, Nick Brandt, Beth Moon, Britta Jaschinski, Frans Lanting, Charlie Hamilton James, Chris Burkard, Jimmy Chin, Tamara Dean, David Doubilet, Steve Winter, Jim Naughten, Xavi Bou, Aletheia Casey, and Ami Vitale, who are among the hundred photographers taking part. Vital impacts are also minimising environmental impact by offsetting emissions. The printing, shipping, ordering system, and web platform for the sale are all carbon neutral.
