World Press Photo exhibition lands in Sydney

The World Press Photo Foundation brings its highly-anticipated global exhibition back to Australia this week.

Hosted at the State Library of New South Wales from tomorrow until Sunday, July 7, 2024 - exhibition attendees will be granted a first-look at the photographs that won the 67th annual World Press Photo Contest.

Widely considered the highest honour for photojournalism, the 2024 World Press Photo was won by Mohammed Salem, a Palestinian Reuters photographer, for his image A Palestinian Woman Embraces the Body of Her Niece.

Two Australians are also among this year’s winners in the Southeast Asia and Oceania region: Eddie Jim (Singles category) and Aletheia Casey (Open Format category).

In addition to the exhibition, Jury Chair for Europe and photojournalist Anastasia Taylor-Lind is holding a special event on Saturday 25 May where she will speak about the contest and the winning photographs. This event is free.

World Press Photo runs at the State Library of New South Wales from tomorrow until Sunday, July 7, 2024. The exhibition is open 9-5pm, and there are also opportunities to test gear from sponsor Fujifilm on opening day.

The exhibition is free to attend.
