Marcus Boyd, A village derailed. (Documentary/Photojournalism)

Just one of the many settlements with little to their name and no security over their housing the inhabitants squatting alongside Phnom Penh's railway have a growing shadow over the future of their residence. With impending developments of a commercial railway for freight purposes the villagers could be relocated and pushed out with little or no compensation similar to villagers of many other sites such as the recently filled in Boueng Kak Lake. However the hope shines through in the ingenuity of young Ravoth pictured who has created his own drum set from scrap materials collected from the waste around the shanty village. With such positivity displayed its the interminable happiness of the people that shines through such darkness. Greeted with smiles and warmth one hopes that the future of the people in the village is met with compassion as the inevitable development of Cambodia's Capital city is growing at an alarming rate. With little response from the government as to the plans or progress of the impending railway upgrade their future remains cloudy and uncertain. One thing is certain however, that the immortal smile and blistering warmth of these people regardless of where they live or what they may possess will always remain.
