Nadja Arold, As time collapsed in Melbourne (DOCO 2022)
Towards the end of the 6th lockdown, when the size of our bubble changed and the city was within reach again, I went for a walk through empty streets. It felt like time had collapsed. It was eerily quiet. Shops were closed, some permanently. No traffic apart from a few empty trams. But the morning light was still there. The smell of coffee from one of the few places offering take aways was still there. The layers of artwork in the laneways were still there. The pigeons, looking a bit depressed and hungrier than usual, were still there. And hope, hope was still there too!
