Kevin Palmer, Aspects of Desired Designs (Art (2019))

Form, shape, light, colour, emotion! For me the art seen in good car design uses these while creating art with function. Translating them as aspects of art in photography, they can help the mind to connect to the object or the art and desire it. Early automotive poster artists took those ideals, sometimes exaggerating shape or focusing on one significant aspect; a grill, curve or wheel arch. The technique of defining or confining done to grab the viewer's attention, imagination and create an emotional connection. This has influenced some of my automotive imagery. I would like to think that those not into cars are seeing interesting subjects of shape, colour and light (just from an unexpected source). Even though the whole car is not seen, car enthusiasts would recognise each glimpse. My hope is to transport their minds eye, leading them to wandering thoughts with emotional connections to their love of automation. These images were captured using available light, in situ either on a street, car park or sales venue. Cropping and post production used only to clean up images, while staying true to what was photographed.
