Mariana Zilbershteyn, Australian Backyard Icon (DOCO 2023)

The backyard in Australia has iconic status. It has utility as a location for drying clothes and growing plants. It is prepared and manicured for social events, shown off to friends and extended family. And, it is a place of seclusion from the rest of the world, a family’s own private outdoor space. Summer in the sunny suburb of Melbourne, Australia. My daughter using our private space to sun-bake under the Hills Hoist in my childhood suburban backyard whilst on holidays in Australia in the summer 2022.
