Talia Greis, Back to Black (Animal 2020)
A moment is all you need to understand why you decided to wake up and dive. Sydney can often bring cold and brutal seas, less-than-favourable visibility, and an overall sense of dismay before you’ve even touched water. However, just before you’re ready to throw in the towel after a long and harsh descent, a moment can present itself that can change the course of thought. A long Green turtle on his pilgrim to “destination safe”, a bobtail squid reflecting off the evening surface, or even a duo of Cuttlefish wrapping and thrashing their bodies together in synchronicity. All of these moments remind me that there is always going to be surprise and intrigue in this critter castle submerged beneath our waters.
