Paul Laurance Burnett, Behind the Barrier (DOCO 2021)

Phones cameras at the ready and selfie sticks extended to full reach. The 9th of May marks 'Victory Day' (end of WWII) for Russia and a handful of former Soviet republics. Massive amounts of military hardware roll though the streets of Moscow not only to celebrate the German surrender but also to commemorate and remember those who passed away. Children wave at tank drivers and masses of people clamber on top of what ever they can to get a good view. An atmosphere of sovereignty and gratitude is evident. The parade is amazing but it is in the faces onlookers that the true story is told.
