NAVIN SAM REGI, Brisbane (Portrait (2019))
I'm a migrant. And a photojournalist. I came here nearly five years ago as a journalism student. Over the first few years I struggled to make meaningful connections with people, but eventually my photography pulled me closer to these characters and a beautiful city. These and the many other portraits I've taken over the years represent Brisbane to me. Each have their own story, each have their own purpose. 1. A Murri elder guides his mob through Brisbane's scenic Victoria Bridge protesting invasion day 2. The Change Makers of Woodridge State High School, breaking stereotypes of their community 3. When marriage equality was proclaimed 4. Amanda Haworth, Woolloongabba 5. Aleea Monsour, West End 6. Maxwell Rowley, Paddington
