Katherine Boland, Burnt Orange (PORTRAIT 2024)
In the aftermath of a recently bushfire-ravaged landscape on the Far South Coast of New South Wales, I have tried to capture the compelling spirit of a young climate activist navigating the charred terrain. These photographs bear witness to a courageous presence amid the remnants of nature's fury. Against the backdrop of burnt bushland, the activist stands as a symbol of resilience, embodying the urgent call for environmental stewardship. Through the juxtaposition of her determined stance and the devastation surrounding her a visual narrative unfolds. The scorched earth becomes a sobering canvas, emphasising the critical need to address climate change. Framed by the stark reality of ecological destruction, the young activist stands as a powerful catalyst for change.
