Grant Hunt, Children of Southern India (Travel (2019))

Children often best tell the story of a foreign land. Their honesty and innocence add a level of integrity and authenticity to any travel experience. A road trip from the Bay of Bengal on the east coast of India, across the Western Ghats to the back waters of Kerala and onto the west coast, presents so many opportunities for random stops and easy engagement with the local people. From the little girl catching the wind through the sunroof of her dad's 7 series BMW in Chennai, to the shy little boy from the slums of Dharavi in Mumbai, from big cities to tiny villages, all the kids I encountered offered such diverse and interesting stories.
