Terence Tong, Cuttlefish Shenanigans (ANIMAL 2024)

Every year, hundreds of thousands of Australian Giant Cuttlefish aggregate in the winter months in Whyalla, South Australia. They are there for one thing only, and it is to reproduce. Male cuttlefish can outnumber female counterparts at a 7:1 ratio making it a tough competition. This event is an amazing spectacle and the marine interactions are beyond amazing. In this portfolio, you can see cuttlefish mating (face to face embrace), fighting (tangled up) and also just showing off to the camera. All photos are taken whilst freediving.
