Mieke Boynton, Earthly Symbols (Landscape (2019))
As a child, I was fascinated by the tiny details of Nature’s creation. Leaves, feathers, rocks, bark and sand patterns provided endless hours of entertainment and curiosity for me. As an adult, I have found that the same fascination with lines, shapes, patterns, colours and textures has led me to create an ever-expanding body of work in Abstract Aerial Photography. When I fly, time is suspended. I seek out combinations of natural shapes and patterns and textures and colours that "work" together and communicate with me. If I'm very lucky, a combination of these will jump out at me with a hidden meaning. In these moments, it's as though the landscape "speaks" in symbols and metaphors, and it delights me to photograph them. This collection of aerial images was taken during chartered flights along the Kimberley and Coral Coasts of Western Australia.
