Alice Mariette, Fishing with Nanda and Coco (DOCO 2021)
Last year my 72 year old dad had an unexpected stroke. A few months later an overdue post-stroke test showed that he had advanced heart failure - his heart was functioning at just ten percent and he was lucky to still be standing. A few days later he underwent triple bypass surgery, a slightly more complicated case than your typical one. He made it through, but the whole experience left us all in a state of shock, as there was a real chance that he wasn't going to live to tell the tale. Since this time I think we have all become more aware of how precious the time is that we have together and how we never know which day will be our last. As a result, we have been making an effort to spend more time together and a tradition is developing in which we go fishing with Nanda and Coco. It is less about the fishing and more about being in each other's company, though a fish is always welcome.
