Peter Sharp, Freedom (Art (ATEP 2017))

This is a series of images entitled ‘Freedom’. Mid last year I spent a couple of days taking photos of two different breeds of Siamese Fighting Fish as part of a personal project I was working on. I find watching fish and any form of wildlife to be really cathartic, especially when it's combined with listening to music. While taking photos of this fish, I thought about the myth that fish only have a three-second memory. This made me think about the freedom that would exist in a world where humans had a memory that only lasted three-seconds. I thought of a world free of hatred, free of violence and one that is filled with beauty. There is so much beauty in this world and these images remind me of that. From a technical perspective this image was captured with three Profoto B2 lights. One at the back of the tank, one above and then one from the front. The back light was overexposed to blow out the colour of the water. The top light had a small octabox and the front light a small beauty dish. It was then a matter of being patient and waiting for that right combination of movement.
