Rusty Crawshaw, Freedom at Midnight (Documentary/Photojournalism)

India, a country that invokes as many emotions as there are inhabitants. With a population of over one billion people it seems a curious notion that, amongst the sensory assault a visitor invariably faces, one can lose touch with the very things that make us human. Against the backdrop of world famous landmarks and myriad religious and spiritual sites, in the chaotic streets and side alleys and at the bustling train stations, lovers love, friends share stories, weary shopkeepers doze and each individual in this mind-bending mass of people go about their seemingly insignificant daily tasks in order to get by. But it's these themes that bind humanity. We're all doing what we can to get by. Only some of us are more fortunate than others.
