These photos are part of a larger series of work set in and around the Chinatown district of Bangkok; an area that is renowned for its street food, jewelry shops and labyrinth of alleyways and markets. With surrounding districts having had an increasing number of shopping centers and high rises built in recent years, developers are eyeing up Chinatown's prime real estate threatening the fabric and cultural identity of the area. While photographing this work I happened to be in Thailand at an historic time as the nation was at the start of an annual year of mourning for the recently deceased King Bhumbibol with many locals wearing black out of respect. Up until his death the King was the world's longest serving monarch and was seen as a stabilizing and moral force in a country, that since 2014, has been ruled by a military junta.
