Peter Ogden, Gardens of Sand (Landscape 2020)
Australia is a land of seductive extremes. From alpine regions to impenetrable forests; mountain ranges to sun-kissed beaches, it never fails to surprise me. This summer I walked into the Worimi Conservation Lands, NSW - the longest and biggest shifting dunes in the Southern Hemisphere. The area between the featureless 30m dunes and the wind-lashed beach is full of contrasts, but one thing kept drawing me back with my camera…the tops of trees that are still growing from the ever-encroaching march of the sand. The fact anything still grows in these climes still makes me shake my head in wonder…
