Nynno Bel-Air, Gem Tones (Editorial/Fashion (ATEP 2017))
Editorial beauty photography captured my attention early on. Following the work of photographers such as Mario Testino, David LaChapelle, and more recently Chen Man and Jamie Nelson, I remain in awe of their aesthetic elements. Not only the amazing saturation of colour, but also the outrageous mood evinced by their models’ expressions and the extravagant creative direction. It is only natural then, that the idea of creating such aesthetically intriguing work -- work that dances at the border of the artistic and the commercial -- became a goal of mine. Having never confronted the challenge that is in-studio beauty photography, I saw this portfolio as an excellent opportunity to begin my journey into uncharted territory. These beauty portraits are part of a 30-image graduate folio, that involved much experimentation with various ideas, lighting techniques and retouching software.
