Stefan Eberhard, Growling Swallet, Tasmania (BLACK & WHITE 2025)

Growling Swallet is a spectacular cave in Southwest Tasmania where a river flowing through dense rainforest abruptly sinks underground into a deep limestone portal to emerge more than ten kilometres away on the other side of the mountain. The name derives from the caves fearsome reputation in flood when the sound of the crashing waterfalls is deafening. This sequence shows the journey a caver makes from the dark tranquil forest (1) then entering the twilight zone with trepidation to assess if the water levels are safe to explore further (2) and finally the deep zone with crashing waterfalls (3).
