Sandra Lamonaca, Hannequin (Doco/Photojournalism (2019))

I often drive past this house with Mannequins placed all around the front yard. One day I stopped by to see if I could find out more and that is when I met Hank and this is his story. ‘One day I was doing a job in Northcote at a place called Rodney’s Tyres. When you go into the shop and to reception a well-dressed man sitting on a chair with the tyres advertised next to him greets you. Every time I went in there he startled me, he got me every time – he was actually a mannequin. I was hooked so I started looking online and bought a few and people started giving them to me over the years as well. It’s just something different; I’m a bit crazy. I place them all over my yard it creates a bit of interest a lot of people stop and take photos, there’s a caravan park up the road so a lot of tourist walk past.’
