SAM STRONG, Intifada (DOCO 2024)
Intifada - An Arabic word that translates literally to "shaking off". In the Palestinian context, it's meaning represents civil uprising. There have been two Intifada's dating back to the first in 1987-1993, then the second in 2000-2005, although no single event significantly signaled it's end. Both of these uprisings combined, led to death tolls of over 5000 Palestinians and some 1400 Israelis. Since the 'unprovoked' attacks from Hamas on October 7 2023, the death toll of Palestinians is currently at over 31,000. 70% of these deaths are reported to be women and children. With thousands still missing under the rubble from the savage bombardment by Israel, this number is surely to rise significantly. A reported 4 in 5 Australians are in favor of a ceasefire in Gaza, with a majority 53% supporting the Australian government to take more action in achieving that goal. This project aims to document this crisis and show Australia's negative stance at large, of the 'live-streamed genocide' we are witness to.
