Alli Harper, Lang Lang (Documentary 2020)
The young hopefuls do the Victorian circuit, travelling between venues and sleeping in swags. By the time they get to Lang Lang they are tired and carrying injuries. Some can barely walk, but they push on. The old timers contrast with the young, brave and foolhardy. In America, rodeos are huge commercial affairs that take place in large stadiums. In this country you can still get close and interact with the participants. There is something quintessentially Australian about our country rodeos, a chance for country lads, and girls to show their horsemanship and bravado. Given the change in community attitude to events concerning horses and livestock, it will be interesting to see what the future holds. It was really hard to choose three images, I wanted to show the spectators, the falls, and yes, the blood but these images have been selected to portray the fact that the country rodeos have remained relatively unchanged for a generation.
